The physical & the spiritual

In the past few weeks, I have attended a few local author events and had the privilege of spending a little bit of time getting to know the authors. For me, it’s energizing to speak with them and hear about their books and their journey into publishing.

With every book, a piece of that author’s heart flows throughout the pages. From the woman who suffered a lifetime of abuse and finally finding some solace in publishing her story, to the son who carried on his father’s 50 years of research and published his book after his father’s death. The stories contained on these pages represent something far more than the story itself.

Some of the authors have taken 15-20 years to complete the process and bring that book over the finish line into that bookstore. I find it truly inspiring as they have given everything into their art in order to share it with others.

Perhaps the next time you are turning the page in your favorite book, you can ask yourself about the story behind the story. Who is this person and where have then been? What fragments of their inner most being are woven throughout these words?

As book event season commences, I will being do all I can to learn more and more about the people behind the project.
